Why Moorebank?

Why you should place Moorebank High School first in your priority list.

At Moorebank High School we believe that:

• The foundation of a student’s successful high school experience begins with the provision of a challenging and engaging curriculum in Years 7 & 8

• The foundation of a student’s successful high school experience begins by addressing their social and emotional needs as they progress into high school.

Teachers at Moorebank High School are well prepared to deliver challenging and appropriate learning for all students. In 2009 all teachers were intensively trained in gifted and talented education. This has been followed by intensive, ongoing professional learning focussed on differentiated learning and assessment. Teaching strategies, learning activities and assessments in all subject areas are differentiated in order to cater for the breadth of student ability, interest and prior knowledge.

Additionally, students in Years 7 & 8 undertake a ‘Skills for Success’ program that develops and consolidates skills needed to meet the demands of a high school learning environment. Students engage in diverse learning that equips them with skills and good habits in areas such as time management, prioritising, quality homework and assignments, effective study and test-taking techniques, and goal setting.

Moorebank High School also has a proud tradition of offering a diverse range of student leadership opportunities to enable students to develop the skills to become active and informed citizens. A strong and effective welfare team provides the support needed to assist students move through the challenges of high school.

Finally, Moorebank High School successfully operates an extension program in the community stream in Years 7 & 8 that enhances the strong academic climate of the school. Placement in the extension program is by invitation only following testing.

The Extension Program at Moorebank High School

Placement in our extension program follows an internal testing process. Students in the extension class have a compacted curriculum – that is, the learning is covered in such a way so that time is made available in learning programs to enable students to investigate related fields of study in more depth or undertake relevant research projects and rich tasks, in order to extend their learning, often beyond the classroom.

Moorebank High School should be your school of choice, as we offer diverse and engaging learning opportunities that address the needs of all students in our blended (selective, extension, community) school environment.
